EXPEDITIONS: PIONEER SKI MOUNTAINEERING

Trip Description

Best described as the Alps of Idaho, the heart of the Pioneer Mountains is truly a ski mountaineer’s paradise. Sharp, craggy summits rise from glacially carved alpine cirques with sweeping bowls, couloirs and stunning faces.  Each peak within the heart of this range has a unique and aesthetic ski descent from the lofty summit, ranging from moderate to extreme.  The vertical relief of many of these ski descents is 2-4000’.  The heart of the Pioneer Mountains is truly a ski mountaineer’s paradise.  We base out the Pioneer Yurt, perched in a meadow at 8700’ and surrounded by the highest and most dramatic of the Pioneer Mountains.  Our peak objectives will be chosen according to guests abilities and goals and may include ascents and descents of: Hyndman Peak (12,009’), Old Hyndman(11,755’), Cobb (11,650’), Goat Peak (11,650’), Handwerk Peak (10,860’), Duncan’s Peak (11,491), and Salzberger Spitzl.  Beautiful summits, long ski descents, stunning scenery, expert guiding and the comfort of a cozy yurt best describe this ski mountaineering experience.  Let our guides craft a climbing and skiing program that matches your objectives and will provide you with an unmatched mountain experience.
